Course Quality Program and Quality Matters Certification
DELTA’s Course Quality (CQ) Program supports NC State’s commitment to students by providing instructors with a comprehensive menu of services, resources and research to ensure the quality of their online and hybrid courses.
Built on the foundations of the globally-recognized standards-based Quality Matters (QM) rubric, Course Quality at DELTA prioritizes continuous improvement in digital teaching and learning environments through exceptional professional development and training opportunities.
- Applying the Quality Matters Rubric training is offered throughout the year in both synchronous in-person and asynchronous online formats. This training offers a high-level overview of quality course design and best practices intended for a broad audience of faculty, instructional designers, administrators and adjunct instructors.
- 75 NC State courses have been Quality Matters certified, after a rigorous external course review process.

DELTA Grants
The DELTA Grants program provides support, key services and financial resources to increase student success through faculty partnerships. Our goal is to collaborate on reusable efforts with a broad reach to enhance teaching and learning through technology and research-based best practices.
Grant recipients are awarded $8,000 ($5,000 for Faculty Fellows Grants) to use for personnel, conferences, equipment or other grant-related expenses. In addition, you will work with a dedicated DELTA team of experts to collaborate with you to find solutions for your instructional challenges.
- Course Improvement Grants facilitate instructors’ understanding and application of QM standards. This grant involves a deep exploration of each standard, practice with applying the standard to a course and collaboration with mentors and peers.
- Hybrid Learning Grants are for redesigning an existing course by leveraging the strengths of online and in-person learning modalities to create engaging, interactive and flexible learning environments. Hybrid learning courses often adopt the flipped classroom approach by fully or partially moving in-class lectures to asynchronous online learning.
- Exploratory Grants provide funds to examine a single application or to address a unique instructional challenge in an existing course. Generally, a new technology such as a mobile app, immersive reality or adaptive learning strategy is adopted to foster increased engagement and student success in mastering course content.
- Course Design Grants are for the design and development of research-based and quality-focused course support efforts. Often, instructional materials are created to expand or substantially revise an established course, which may include the use of web-based technologies or the creation of multimedia resources.
- Faculty Fellows Grants champion innovative technological pedagogy by fostering the exchange of ideas and interdisciplinary partnerships among NC State faculty with support from DELTA staff.

DELTA Express Grants
DELTA Express Grants are semester-long initiatives that pair NC State instructors with DELTA experts to solve specific pedagogical challenges. Grant recipients are awarded $2,000 to use for personnel, conferences, equipment or other grant-related expenses. And, a dedicated DELTA team of experts will help to collaborate on creating and implementing innovative instructional solutions.
- Course Mapping Express Grants pair instructors with DELTA experts to create a visual representation of how the learning objectives, materials, activities and assessments of a course align with its learning objectives. The process encourages learner-centered backward design principles, starting with the course completion learning objectives in mind, to help build more meaningful learning experiences.
- Course Accessibility Express Grants pair DELTA experts with NC State instructors to identify research-based strategies for removing or decreasing barriers to equitable course access. The grants focus on both big picture issues, like accessibility and usability of course spaces in Moodle, and specific technological challenges, such as converting documents to formats compatible with screen readers.
- Instructional Tools Grants assists faculty who want to create effective learning activities or materials using existing NC State enterprise digital learning tools. The purpose of this Grant is to support faculty in solving a specific, limited pedagogical challenge.
