NC State’s Digital Education and Learning Technology Applications (DELTA) will host a Learning Technologies Town Hall focused on the university’s transition from Moodle to Canvas on Friday, April 24, from noon to 1 p.m. via Zoom. The session is the first in a series designed to inform and engage with faculty and staff on DELTA’s suite of learning technologies. This inaugural town hall will focus primarily on the Canvas transition.

This Learning Technologies Town Hall is a key component of DELTA’s governance process for the transition, and is designed to maintain transparency, encourage collaboration and ensure the campus community has a voice in the work toward Canvas adoption. DELTA plans to offer these sessions on a regular basis to sustain ongoing dialogue with faculty and staff at NC State.

What to Expect from the Learning Technologies Town Hall

DELTA team members leading the transition from Moodle to Canvas will provide an overview of the transition, including where it currently stands and what’s slated for the following semesters. Attendees will learn more about the Research and Development phase currently underway, including the group of faculty and staff evaluators working closely with DELTA to test Canvas features, explore configurations and provide structured feedback.

The presenters will also explain when instructors can begin exploring Canvas, which the team is currently planning for this fall.

“This transition is about more than changing platforms. It’s about strengthening the foundation for teaching and learning at NC State. When we invest in the tools instructors rely on every day, students are the ones who benefit the most. We want to hear from the people doing that work, and the town halls are part of a concerted effort to make this transition as open and collaborative as possible.”

– Stacy Gant, Senior Director for Digital Learning, DELTA

A Multi-Year Process

The move to Canvas is part of the UNC System’s decision to standardize a single learning management system across all of its 17 institutions. The UNC System Board of Governors approved the consolidation in July 2025, selecting Canvas by Instructure as the platform.

NC State’s transition is being thoughtfully carried out in phases to ensure that Canvas meets the university’s specific needs and that instructors have the time, training and support to make the transition successfully. Throughout the process, DELTA is prioritizing input from instructors. The evaluator program, future access to Canvas and events like the Learning Technologies Town Hall are all part of a strategy to keep the campus informed every step of the way.
