Master Project Management: Tools and Tips for Student Success
Teaching with Tech Tip, March 2025

Many students struggle with balancing coursework, deadlines, and personal responsibilities—leading to stress, missed assignments, and last-minute cramming. While instructors can use Moodle features like due dates and activity completion, empowering students to take control of their own task management is key to long-term success.
Encourage students to develop effective task management skills by introducing them to tools that help them organize their coursework. Consider recommending:
📌 Google Tasks or Google Keep – Simple, built-in tools that integrate with Gmail and Google Calendar, allowing students to create task lists, set reminders, and track deadlines.
📌 Moodle to Google: Calendar & Checklists – Help students visualize upcoming due dates and track progress within Moodle by using the Checklist activity or encouraging them to export their Moodle calendar to Google Calendar.
📌 Google Docs’ Built-in Features – Students can improve their organization and task tracking by using:
- The Outline feature to navigate long documents efficiently.
- Commenting and suggesting mode to track progress on assignments.
- Dropdown checklists to create to-do lists within their notes.
By promoting task management strategies and tools, you can help students reduce stress, improve time management, and develop skills they’ll use far beyond the classroom.
