Mediasite Administrators Update, November 2013
As part of an ongoing effort to keep Mediasite Administrators on campus informed, we created this DELTAwire article specifically for you! We have several important announcements regarding Mediasite recorders, our NC State Mediasite User Group Meeting and much more, that we wanted to share with you. For help with any Mediasite questions, please contact us at mediasite-help@ncsu.edu.
This article includes information on the following topics:
Mediasite 5 Servers to Be Decommissioned
As communicated in October, DELTA is relocating the content on the Mediasite 5 servers and working toward decommissioning the servers in April 2014. The following applies to the 5.5 server only: Beginning November 4 through November 8, we will turn off access to the servers to complete the process for final shutdown. During and after this time, content on the servers will not be accessible to local administrators nor will they be able to log into the 5.5 management portal. If there are files on the Mediasite 5 server that you find you need access to, the Mediasite server administrator will be able to access the files through the back end and a request for a file must be submitted to mediasite-help@ncsu.edu.
If you have users who are still direct linking to content or Publish to Go files, please train them to correct their links and use the download feature on the catalog page in Mediasite 6 rather than linking directly to the Publish to Go files. Direct links will be broken when zip files are deleted during regularly scheduled maintenance windows. If a deleted zip file is needed, it can be recreated by taking the same action used to originally create the file.
Mediasite Recorder Incentive
In years past, Sonic Foundry has offered their enterprise customers various incentive/promotional programs. We wanted to make those at NC State aware of a current promotion being offered. If you purchase a RL HD Recorder between now and December 31, 2013, you are able to purchase the RL HD recorder at the at the RL SD Recorder price. Under NC State’s enterprise pricing, this would equate to a $3,000 savings per recorder.
NC State’s Mediasite User Group Meeting
For those who are new to the Mediasite list or not familiar with NC State’s Mediasite User Group (MUG, as Sonic Foundry likes to refer to the meeting), this is a time for anyone using, supporting or administering Mediasite on campus to come together to interact, share and learn what is happening with Mediasite at NC State. Our goal is to establish a strong collaborative relationship with everyone and share lessons learned and best practices for Mediasite implementation and delivery. We also want to hear how we can better support your needs as we are developing the Mediasite enterprise service.
The next NC State MUG meeting will be held in Poe Hall 202 on December 5 from 10 a.m. – noon. Please share this information with anyone you feel would benefit from attending.
At the December 5 meeting we will discuss NC State’s plan for deploying Sonic Foundry’s desktop recorder and media management system, referred to as My Mediasite. We cannot stress enough the importance of this meeting and encourage everyone using Mediasite to attend. Please mark your calendars!
Mediasite 7 Beta Testing Available in January 2014
Sonic Foundry recently announced that they will be providing a series of beta releases leading up to the Mediasite Enterprise Video Platform (EVP) 7 release slated for early 2014. The beta releases are an opportunity for you to try out the new version in advance. NC State is in the planning stages of acquiring and installing version 7 on our test servers and we plan to have an environment ready for testing in January 2014. We will provide more information at the Mediasite User Group Meeting on December 5.
