Tech-Enabled Teaching, Expertly Supported: Inside DELTA Classrooms at NC State
When faculty step into one of NC State’s DELTA-supported classrooms, they’re entering more than just a space with a podium and projector – they’re stepping into a dynamic, thoughtfully designed environment that enhances teaching and learning for every modality. Whether instructors are delivering a hybrid class, hosting a guest speaker over Zoom, recording lectures for asynchronous viewing, or engaging students in real-time discussions across time zones, DELTA classrooms make it possible. And they’re not doing it alone.
From the technology in the room to the people behind it, DELTA classrooms are built on a foundation of flexibility, innovation and support.
“Today’s classrooms are digital learning environments, and our learning spaces offer immersive technologies, student engagement applications, cloud-based tools, and collaborative conferencing solutions that enhance learning in-person and for those participating at a distance,” explains Shawn Colvin, associate director of Innovative Learning Spaces and Support at DELTA.
Designed for Today’s Instructional Needs
The eight DELTA classrooms across NC State’s campus aren’t one-size-fits-all spaces – they’re tailored to meet the growing demands of modern instruction. Each room is equipped with high-quality lecture capture, videoconferencing capabilities, multiple display options and user-friendly control systems. The result? Faculty can focus on teaching, not troubleshooting.
“DELTA classrooms are equipped with multiple cameras to ensure the right shot is captured – whether you’re recording a lecture or presenting live via Zoom. This setup gives both on-campus and remote students the best possible view and experience,” says Brandon Pope, DELTA classroom services manager. “The control systems are intuitive, giving faculty the option to engage directly with the technology, or take a hands-off approach and rely on our real-time support. Either way, they can focus on what matters most – teaching and connecting with students.”
The rooms support a wide range of formats – from traditional lectures and in-person workshops to fully interactive hybrid courses. Cameras follow instructors as they move, microphones pick up student questions clearly, and integrated software syncs automatically with NC State’s learning platforms.
“Faculty are using DELTA classrooms in creative ways – from live demonstrations that move between interactive displays and document cameras to hybrid workshops where remote and in-person students learn together in real-time. Our fully-integrated Zoom Rooms technology expands the classroom beyond its walls by enabling seamless, high-quality connections with guest speakers from institutions and industries around the world,” Pope continues.
Faculty-Centered Support
Behind every successful session in a DELTA classroom is a team of dedicated professionals who make sure the experience runs smoothly. DELTA’s classroom specialists don’t just install and maintain equipment – they serve as partners to faculty, offering onboarding, training and real-time troubleshooting.
“We provide a concierge-level service to instructors. We offer real-time support when it’s needed. Our hands-on approach lets the instructor focus on what’s most important. Teaching,” says LaKendrell Albritton, DELTA classroom support technician. “We work in collaboration with professors to maximize our technology and minimize the hassle.”
Whether it’s the first time using a classroom or the tenth, DELTA’s team meets faculty where they are. This level of individualized support isn’t just appreciated – it’s essential in keeping the learning environment stress-free for both instructors and students.
A Virtual Look Inside
To help faculty explore the options available, DELTA recently launched self-guided virtual tours of each classroom, accessible through the DELTA website. The interactive tours showcase key features of each space, from camera placements and seating configurations to control panel functions and lighting options.
The virtual tours, combined with updated online guides and in-person consultations, are part of DELTA’s ongoing commitment to instructor support.

Why It Matters
Ultimately, the goal of DELTA classrooms is simple: empower faculty to deliver high-impact instruction without getting bogged down by technical barriers.
“By leveraging a centralized remote support model, our team maximizes efficiency and responsiveness, ensuring that every DELTA classroom remains a flexible, accessible, and empowering space for learning, no matter the modality,” says Colvin.
And as teaching continues to evolve, so will DELTA’s learning spaces. Whether it’s upgrading hardware, exploring new tools or adapting to emerging instructional trends, faculty can count on DELTA to stay ahead of the curve.
