NC State’s ‘Think and Do’ motto challenges students to press into issues that may be larger than what seems readily solvable. These issues are defined as wicked problems: issues that impact the world in ways extending across a variety of disciplines and have no one solution.

The Wicked Problems, Wolfpack Solutions (WPWS): Global Change course identifies challenges and how multidisciplinary solutions can impact ancient life, mass extinction, modern ecologies and climate justice. First-year or transfer students are invited to engage in functioning responsibility within our community to become a part of these solutions. This unique course is offered at no cost.

Students are invited to earn two free credit hours over winter break by participating in the course from Dec. 13, 2021, to Jan. 7, 2022. While this course is not required for students, participation will not adversely affect their grade point average, and they will be automatically enrolled in WolfWare.

Wicked Problems, Wolfpack Solutions will give students the ability to understand Moodle and how an online course at NC State is taught. Students will gain exposure to NC State faculty and instructors who have a breadth of knowledge across a variety of disciplines. The course also aims to foster communication and collaboration between students and instructors through Fireside Chats. Because the course is run over winter break, incoming students will be able to get a feel for the NC State learning community prior to coming to campus in the spring.

We’re encouraging students and their families to join the Wicked Problems, Wolfpack Solutions course to get involved in a discussion about global climate change. Check out a recap of this summer’s WPWS course and visit the course website to learn more about the program’s offerings.
