Conference Sessions

The main conference sessions begin Tuesday, Aug. 14 with a keynote from our Faculty Fellows followed by a variety of sessions on innovative instruction and student engagement. Session presenters are from a variety of departments and colleges, allowing participants to learn from different backgrounds and viewpoints. In addition, this year’s sessions will be one hour long.

Wednesday, Aug. 15 kicks off with Speed Geeking — a brand new event to Summer Shorts where attendees will explore technology tools and topics. Presenters will be given five to eight minutes to demo a process and engage in a Q+A session before moving on to the next group. A variety of sessions follow Speed Geeking including topics such as creating interactive content in Moodle with H5P and engaging students with VoiceThread.

The day wraps up with a Quality Matters panel featuring faculty members who participated in the spring 2018 Online Course Improvement Program (OCIP). The group worked to have the first online courses at NC State certified for quality using QM’s rubrics, evaluation tools and peer-review process.

Thursday, Aug. 16 is all about effective online teaching, offering four sessions held online on topics such as designing an amazing Moodle course and student-to-student interaction in online courses.
