Lou Harrison Receives NC State University Award for Excellence

On Tuesday, June 11, 2019, DELTA’s Lou Harrison, Director, Educational Technology Services, was among 12 recipients of the NC State University Award for Excellence.

This award is the highest honor bestowed upon non-faculty employees at NC State, celebrating their considerable accomplishments and contributions to organizational excellence. In addition to receiving eight hours of paid leave, a $1,000 cash award and an engraved award plaque, recipients will advance as nominees for the North Carolina Governor’s Award for Excellence.

Harrison was honored during the ceremony alongside 55 nominees, including DELTA staff members Jonathan Champ, Alexis Simison and Bethanne Tobey. Each received the Provost’s Unit Award for Excellence in March 2019. Harrison was recognized in the Efficiency and Innovation category, which honors candidates who have established new and/or improved methods, practices, plans or designs, resulting in innovation, savings, and/or efficiency for state government services.

“It’s certainly quite an honor to be recognized in this way,” says Harrison. “I hope I’ve left NC State a little better than it was. I am humbled by and appreciate the award.”

Associate Vice Provost Donna Petherbridge nominated Harrison for his significant commitment to student success and innovation. Over several decades at NC State, he has made strides for technology advancement as a pioneer for learning analytics, a leader in the implementation of enterprise learning technologies such as WolfWare and Moodle, and a passionate voice for digital learning around the world.

“Lou is unique in his ability to see the big picture and drive change in the technology field,” says Petherbridge. “Lou is the guy behind the scenes making things better for DELTA.”
