Facilitate Faculty Learning as a DELTA Faculty Fellow
DELTA is currently seeking faculty members who have a passion for sharing their expertise in teaching and learning with technology. If you’re interested in joining a group of exemplary faculty, apply now for DELTA’s Faculty Fellows grant.
Each Faculty Fellow has a unique interest and vision for their partnership. By allowing Faculty Fellows to capitalize on their distinctive strengths, the larger campus community benefits from the rich experiences of faculty who are experts in teaching and learning with technology in their fields.
The Faculty Fellows grant kicked off in 2015 to recruit faculty to share best practices with other faculty members. It has turned into a fully functional program allowing DELTA, faculty at NC State and other institutions to benefit from Faculty Fellows’ expertise through workshops, presenting at conferences, writing articles and more. Recognizing dedicated faculty for their efforts in teaching with technology remains a main goal of the Faculty Fellows grant.
The inaugural cohort of Faculty Fellows included Kimberly Allen, Maria Gallardo-Williams and Ed Lindsay, all who are passionate about sharing their expertise and building a sense of community among the Fellows.
Current Faculty Fellows Amanda Edwards, Michael Kanters and Angie Smith share that sense of community and want to encourage other faculty members to explore teaching with technology.
Each Fellow has actively collaborated with DELTA staff to lead workshops on topics such as virtual reality, fostering collaboration in online environments and insights on online program development. The Faculty Fellows provide a faculty perspective and concrete examples of how tools and techniques can be used in other courses.
The sharing of expertise doesn’t stop at NC State — the Fellows have presented at conferences across the country. Most recently, Smith attended the Online Learning Consortium (OLC) Accelerate Conference in Orlando, Florida, alongside DELTA staff to present work in building community in online courses.
In Fall 2017, Edwards used part of her Faculty Fellow award for travel to present a paper at the American Political Science Association Annual Meeting in San Francisco. While at the conference, Edwards was able to share expertise and learn from faculty at other universities who have integrated Quality Matters standards into their online courses. Another part of Edwards’ partnership has been serving as the faculty lead for the Online Course Improvement Program (OCIP) pilot, where a group of faculty members are working toward creating Quality Matters certified courses.
About the Grant
Faculty selected to receive the Faculty Fellows grant are awarded $5,000 that may be used for traveling to conferences related to teaching with technology, hardware, software, etc.
Applicants for the Faculty Fellows grant must be employed at the university for at least five years and have plans to remain at the university for the full 2018–2019 academic year. Non-tenure, tenure-track and tenured faculty are eligible for the grant.
Faculty Fellows are expected to commit to a minimum of 40 hours to participate in a variety of DELTA events and programs. During these events, Faculty Fellows represent the voice and perspective of the faculty community.
The types of activities Faculty Fellows may participate in during their year of service include teaching or co-teaching DELTA workshops, publishing DELTA News articles on teaching with technology topics, assisting with one-on-one consultations with faculty and more.

Proposal submissions for the 2018–19 DELTA Grants program are accepted now until April 27. All entries must be submitted by 5 p.m. Friday, April 27.
