Mediasite Administrators Update, April 2014(Archive)

As part of an ongoing effort to keep Mediasite administrators on campus informed, we created this DELTAwire article specifically for you!  For help with any Mediasite questions, please contact us at mediasite-help@ncsu.edu.

This article includes information on the following topics:

Mediasite Version 7 Upgrade

After continued analysis, DELTA has concluded that upgrading to version 7 during the summer of 2014 is feasible. An implementation team is now working to evaluate, plan and discuss action items and create a timeline for the upgrade. We will continue to keep everyone informed of planning strategies, timelines and action items.

Mediasite Server Maintenance

The monthly Windows Updates for the Mediasite servers will be installed on Saturday, April 12, 2014, from 5:00-6:00 a.m. The servers will be rebooted one at a time, but no outage is expected due to the redundant nature of the system.

My Mediasite Pilot Progress

The My Mediasite desktop recorder pilot is flourishing as the spring semester continues. We have more than 80 participants, who have recorded 300 presentations that together have received more than 5500 views. The My Mediasite Pilot Community Moodle course has been a well-used resource, with participants taking full advantage of all its available features. We have seen robust use of the posted training materials and emailed weekly activities, which have prompted participants to try different features of the software. Forum use has been particularly encouraging, with content creators posting their work and experiences. A number of our instructors have “hit the ground running” and are actively creating and using My Mediasite recordings for their current spring semester courses. Our plans are on track to offer an enterprise-level service to all faculty and staff during summer 2014.

Don’t forget to enroll in the My Mediasite Pilot Community Moodle course for updates and other important information.

Desktop Recording and Media Management with My Mediasite Workshop

DELTA will offer a custom training workshop for My Mediasite Pilot participants and other faculty and staff members interested in learning more about Desktop Recording and Media Management with the My Mediasite suite of tools. The training session will cover basics features and tools such as recording options, uploading and managing presentations, as well as tips and best practices for using My Mediasite to produce effective instructional content for both blended and online courses. The workshop will include an open lab for attendees to try out the tools and have any questions answered. If you are interested in attending, sign up via this Google Form.

NC State Mediasite User Group Meeting

The next NC State Mediasite User Group (MUG) meeting will be held in 130 Park Shops on Monday, May 12, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. We encourage everyone using Mediasite to attend. Please mark your calendars!
