Mediasite Administrators Update, February 2014(Archive)
As part of an ongoing effort to keep Mediasite Administrators on campus informed, we created this DELTAwire article specifically for you! We have several important announcements regarding My Mediasite tools, server maintenance, media management and more, that we wanted to share with you. For help with any Mediasite questions, please contact us at mediasite-help@ncsu.edu.
This article includes information on the following topics:
Managing Disk Space on a Recorder
The Mediasite Recorder should not be considered an official backup or archive solution for presentations. The Mediasite servers and the OIT backups perform this function. Because it may be more convenient to retrieve a presentation from the recorder it was captured on, presentations can be stored for a period of time (i.e. a semester). However, because the hard drives only hold 160 GB, the number of presentations that can be stored on the recorder is limited. Therefore, the hard drives on the recorders need to be managed.
You can manage the disk space on the recorder by enabling automatic deletion of automatically published recorded presentations and setting the recorder free disk space limit.
To manage the disk space on the recorder, from the recorder, select “Settings” > “Disk Management,” and specify the setting for managing the recorder’s disk space:
- “Move presentations to Recycle Bin after auto-publishing”: Select this checkbox to send recorded presentations configured for auto-publishing to the Recycle Bin after they are successfully published.
- “Perform presentation deletion when free space is less than”: Use the slide bar to set the free disk space limit on the recorder. When this value is reached the recorder will automatically delete presentations from the Recycle Bin. If there are no presentations to delete from the Recycle Bin, then the oldest presentations in the “Presentations” tab will be moved to the Recycle Bin and deleted immediately until the appropriate disk space is restored.
Please note: If a presentation has been sent to the Recycle Bin automatically and you find you need to republish or edit the presentation, it can be restored to the “Presentation” tab.
Sonic Foundry Enterprise Video Awards
Applications are currently being accepted for Sonic Foundry’s Enterprise Videos Awards. The awards celebrate those at the forefront of using Mediasite in creative and innovative ways. Further information regarding the awards as well as categories can be found at http://www.sonicfoundry.com/enterprise-video-awards. If you are interested in applying, applications must be submitted by February 28.
Mediasite Server Maintenance
The Mediasite servers will have Windows updates applied on February 15, 2014, during the regularly scheduled maintenance window. The servers will be on a rolling reboot as part of the process, and we do not expect any interruption of service.
My Mediasite Pilot Underway
The “My Mediasite” desktop recorder and media management pilot is underway and will run through the spring semester, with a full launch of the service targeted for summer 2014. A total of 100 faculty and staff can participate in the pilot, and there are still spaces available for anyone interested. Participants will be reporting their experiences with the application, enabling DELTA to better prepare for supporting it as an enterprise production service. Sign up now if you’re interested in participating in the pilot!
If you are currently participating in the pilot, don’t forget to enroll in the My Mediasite Pilot Community Moodle course for updates and other important information.
