Second DELTA Open House Draws a Crowd
More than 100 guests attended the second DELTA Open House on December 6 to learn about the many ways DELTA is helping faculty contribute to student success at NC State. Held in the Park Shops building on main campus, the event gave visitors a chance to check out the facility that DELTA’s Video Communication Services (VCS) calls home and the equipment and techniques that VCS uses when recording for courses.
As guests entered the lobby area next to Port City Java they signed in at the main desk next to the refreshments. At the next table over, visitors toured the Distance Education Virtual Orientation, a Moodle course designed to help students acclimate to online learning environments.
In the adjacent rooms on the first floor of Park Shops, VCS demonstrated some of their capabilities and services, which included: remote Mediasite captures, Distance Education (DE) classrooms, interactive services, live streaming, media production and studio services. They also showed instructors samples of educational videos and the student view of a Mediasite-recorded course.
In the copious space of room 130, one of the newest and biggest classroom capture rooms, visitors perused the “Poster Sessions.” Instructors and faculty mingled with DELTA staff and discussed the services, tools and solutions that DELTA offers. To demonstrate these, DELTA staff displayed examples of projects they worked on. DE Testing services also discussed security measures and capabilities of their testing facilities, including the new testing room in Cox Hall.
Visitors could also get their photographs taken with Santa in room 132, the DELTA Studio Control room. Outside of good holiday spirit, this photo session also demonstrated the green screen and video editing capabilities of the VCS team. After finishing touches, each visitor received their festive holiday photo by email.
Thank you to all those who attended Open House and made this event a success!
