LCR Assessment Reports
The DELTA Large Course Redesign (LCR) Pilot Grants program has been providing monetary and staff resources for faculty who are redesigning large-enrollment undergraduate courses at NCSU. Four courses were targeted for the first round of DELTA LCR Pilot Grant funding in the 2008-2009 academic year: Precalculus I (MA 107); Precalculus Algebra and Trigonometry (MA 111); Foundations of Graphics (GC 120); Engineering Statics (MAE 206).
These courses have gone through the first phase of redesign and the piloted courses have been taught in at least one semester in the 2009-2010 academic years. Plans for measuring the success of each redesign were created at the beginning of each project and are now being used to determine if the initial LCR goals are being met.
We currently have two preliminary assessment reports for GC 120 and MA 111. Quantitative and qualitative data were collected to measure the impact on students’ grades and to gauge students’ attitudes about learning in the redesigned courses. The initial reports are also the basis for measuring increases in future enrollments in GC 120 and for tracking the success of MA 111 students as they complete the calculus series MA 141 and MA 241.
