How DELTA Supports NC State Instructors

How to find the right support for your teaching goals.

DELTA staff work with instructors in a workshop.

Where should an instructor turn for help with Canvas, accessibility, course design, testing or instructional technology? DELTA brings those services together, giving NC State faculty several paths to strengthen teaching and support student learning.

Through DELTA, faculty, staff and graduate teaching assistants have access to technical assistance, instructional consultations, workshops, teaching resources, grants, media production, learning spaces and academic testing support.

Where you start depends on what you’re looking for.

Need an Answer or Technical Support?

The LearnTech Help Desk supports instructors using NC State learning technologies, including WolfWare, Moodle, Panopto and other enterprise tools.

Instructors may submit a LearnTech request for hands-on assistance or search the DELTA Knowledge Base for articles, job aids, frequently asked questions and short tutorials. The LearnTech YouTube channel also offers on-demand videos covering teaching and technology topics.

For questions requiring more discussion, instructors may request an instructional consultation. DELTA staff work one-on-one with faculty on course design, teaching strategies, accessibility, technology implementation and course redesign. DELTA responds to consultation requests within two business days or sooner.

Want to Build Your Learning Technology Skills?

DELTA Workshops offer free professional development for NC State faculty, staff and graduate teaching assistants.

Sessions cover enterprise learning technologies and broader teaching topics, including Moodle, Panopto, Yellowdig, PlayPosit and more, as well as accessibility and artificial intelligence in teaching and learning. Formats include live online sessions, in-person workshops, self-paced courses and open labs.

Faculty groups with a shared need may request a custom workshop. DELTA develops these sessions for groups of seven or more instructional faculty members and the staff or graduate students who support their teaching.

Instructors seeking independent guidance may also visit the DELTA Teaching Resources website. The site brings together research-based strategies, templates and guides related to course design, content and media, assessment, learner engagement, accessibility and instructional tools.

Planning for the Move to Canvas?

NC State has begun a multiyear transition from Moodle to Canvas following the UNC System’s decision to adopt a common learning management system.

DELTA is leading the university’s transition through phased testing, faculty engagement, training and support. Limited access to Canvas began in summer 2026, followed by expanded training and implementation resources as the transition progresses.

Faculty do not need to wait to strengthen their current courses. Accessibility improvements and sound course design practices applied in Moodle will support future migration to Canvas. DELTA will continue to share timelines, frequently asked questions and faculty resources throughout the transition.

Ready to Strengthen a Course?

DELTA instructional designers work with faculty to connect learning objectives, assessments, course materials and teaching strategies.

An instructional consultation offers a flexible starting point for faculty exploring a challenge or considering a larger project. Topics might include improving course organization, increasing student engagement, selecting an instructional tool, developing assessments or redesigning an online or hybrid course.

The Course Quality Program offers a more structured path. Based on the Quality Matters Higher Education Rubric, the program helps instructors examine alignment, navigation, accessibility, learner engagement and other elements of effective online and hybrid course design.

Have a Project That Needs Funding and a Team?

DELTA Grants pair faculty members with specialists in areas such as instructional design, media production, application development and research on teaching effectiveness.

Yearlong DELTA Grants support substantial course designs, redesigns, instructional experiments and faculty leadership projects. Current grant categories include Course Design, Course Improvement, Exploratory, Hybrid Learning, Program Design and Faculty Fellows: Canvas Ambassadors.

Canvas Ambassadors will serve as faculty leaders during the 2026-27 academic year. Fellows will work with DELTA to support colleagues, share effective practices and build faculty connections during the university’s LMS transition.

Faculty with a focused course need may pursue a DELTA Express Grant. These semester-long projects address defined teaching challenges through Course Accessibility, Course Mapping or Instructional Tools grants. Each recipient receives a $2,000 award and support from a DELTA team.

Applications for the fall DELTA Express Grant cycle open Monday, Aug. 17, and close Friday, Sept. 4, 2026.

Working to Improve Accessibility?

DELTA provides consultations, workshops and online resources to help instructors reduce barriers within courses and instructional materials.

Support addresses course organization and navigation, documents, images, video, audio, tables, learning activities and the effective use of accessibility checkers. Faculty may also apply for a Course Accessibility Express Grant to receive focused assistance with an existing course.

Instructors preparing for Canvas should continue improving accessibility in Moodle. Accessibility formatting applied to course content and uploaded documents should carry into the new platform, and DELTA plans to provide an accessibility checker within Canvas.

Need a Technology-Enhanced Teaching Space?

DELTA classrooms support online, hybrid and technology-enhanced instruction. Available features vary by room and include video conferencing, lecture capture and connections between on-campus and remote participants.

Remote technical support helps instructors manage classroom technology during scheduled courses. DELTA also operates mini studios where faculty members may record course content in a simplified production environment.

Faculty may review classroom information and virtual tours before submitting a reservation request or scheduling a consultation.

Looking for Exam and Proctoring Support?

Academic Testing Services provides on-campus and off-campus exam proctoring in secure, monitored settings. The service also supports students whose approved testing accommodations cannot be met in the classroom.

Instructors must submit exam information each semester to request services. Priority depends on course type, testing needs, available capacity and accommodation requirements.

The Instructor Portal includes request forms, reports, guidelines and assessment resources. Fall 2026 requests for distance education, hybrid and accommodated exams opened July 27.

Requests for on-campus full-class testing open Aug. 11.
