A new LMS is coming, and you may be wondering if the accessibility updates you’re making to your Moodle course now will carry over when we transition to Canvas. We fully expect that your content in Moodle will retain all of its accessibility formatting when transferred into Canvas.
If you have used Brickfield to make changes in your Moodle course, the underlying HTML code (where the improvements ultimately lie) should migrate over with fidelity to Canvas. Your other uploaded materials, such as PowerPoints or Word Documents, will be made accessible outside the Moodle environment using the program you used to create them. The accessibility of those items is attached to the files themselves; it makes no difference if they are shared from Moodle vs. Canvas.
Bottom line: You should continue to make your Moodle course as accessible as possible, and this work will result in a Canvas course that is in good shape when it is time to transition. In addition, DELTA plans to provide a robust accessibility checker in Canvas to help you verify that everything has transferred over in an accessible way.
