LearnTech Team Highlights: Helpful Instructional Technology Knowledge Articles for Managing Your Course
Padlet is an interactive, collaborative digital bulletin board tool. It allows users to post, organize, and share multimedia content to shared boards in real time. It can be used independently or directly embedded in Moodle courses through NC State’s official integration.
Padlet is fully integrated into NC State’s Moodle environment, allowing instructors to embed Padlets directly into course pages or assignments. This streamlines access for students and allows for consistent use across the learning platform.
Moodle integrates with various instructional technologies like Panopto, PlayPosit, Yellowdig, and Perusall through Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) external tool links. These links ensure a smooth student experience and enable features like grade passback. Copying Moodle content between academic years or between Moodle Academic, Projects, and Outreach servers can cause LTI external tool links to stop functioning, and the broken links must be paired with the external tool again.
Grade items and categories in the gradebook can be manually hidden, or hidden due to activity settings. There are different methods for changing the availability of grade items in Moodle’s gradebook.
The Panopto activity can be used to provide an interactive activity in a Moodle course that features grade passback using specific data from the Panopto video, like watch percentage or Quiz results. It also modifies the video sharing permissions to ensure any student in the Moodle course can access the video.
Moodle Forum Ratings is an alternative grading method to Whole Forum Grading, although Ratings can be used with Whole Forum Grading. Ratings typically use scales as the grading mechanism that the instructor can apply to students’ forum posts, although Points can also be utilized. Ratings are aggregated into a grade in the Gradebook.
Filters transform text in a Moodle course into more complex forms, such as embedded video, TeX notation, H5P activities, and more. Instructors can enable filters to more easily create interaction in their course page without the need for copying embed code or working with HTML. Filters can be enabled or disabled at the course level, or activity level.
